I really liked this book but it's not for the faint of heart. This book has many, very dark subject matters and doesn't dance around them. Very up front about such things as brutal rape and the cruelty and brutality that both Native Americans and white men committed towards each other, the reader is given a sometimes grim picture of life in the old west. But of course in the way that only Catherine Anderson can manage, in my opinion, the love story between Hunter and Loretta will make you sigh and overshadow all the sad parts. This is the first in a 4 book series. Second is "Comanche Heart", third "Indigo Blue", and fourth "Comanche Magic". I've read them all and enjoyed spending time with this family.
