In my opinion, this book fulfills its promise to describe Rideau Hall 'the Canadian Home' as it goes beyond the architecture, Governor Generals, etc. to the gardens and the people who have lived there, ending with information on visiting. It is profusely illustrated, with careful descriptions of the photos.
Rideau Hall was briefly rented and then purchased by the Dominion to serve as the official residence of the (until the end of George VI's reign lords and ladies) Governor General and his family. As the Parliament buildings where the Confederation occurred in 1867 burnt in 1916, Rideau Hall has a special place in the hearts of Canadians.
I would have rated it higher had it had an index.
