While this book definitely has things to recommend it, it's also just another list of rules. While I can empathize with an agent who undoubtedly gets far too many submissions from writers who don't know the basic rules, making more rules (she calls them "secrets") isn't going to help. There's really nothing here that isn't in any other dozen books on writing, though I will say her exercises are more interesting than most of what you find in writing manuals.
