Summary:
Desmond Pucket is a master at pranks and monster things. He can mix up the better fake blood than any monster movie maker. Not only does he understand special effects, but he can also pull the audience into his pranks to make them so much better. Unfortunately for him, the vice principal is out to get him. Desmond's goal is to make it through the year without getting kicked out of middle school, and make it to the Crab Shell Pier field trip. All he cares about is going to Crab Shell Pier, the home of the Mountain Full of Monsters ride, but will he be able to curb his prankster tendencies to make it to that field trip or will Mr. Needles succeed in getting rid of him?
My thoughts:
This book is hilarious! It is completely over the top and will keep you laughing through each prank. I read it in one sitting and wanted more. The drawings add to the narrative and provide ease of access for readers of several age groups. I can easily see a 3rd grader pick up this book and enjoy it, just as much as I know several of my high school reluctant readers will enjoy it. The fact that I was laughing so hard while reading it has already produced a waiting list. Finally, there are some do-it-yourself recipes in the back. As a teacher, I'm now on the look out for some monster magic within my classroom, but at the same time I can't wait for next Halloween so that I can produce some gruesome blood as well. Please give me another Desmond book!
