So many voices in this book it is sometimes difficult to find the thread that connects them. But Irishman James Con OKeeffe and his wife Lucia are the central figures. The cacophony of the Civil War voices is conveyed with poetry, songs and contemporary illustrations, like a scrapbook of mementos from the thousands of Irish-Americans who took part in the War. This book is extraordinary and complex, but I recommend that you read the author's notes at the end before diving in. A great book, well worth your effort. The denouement brings love, redemption, and forgiveness.
