Since Tony Hillerman has now passed on, his daughter Anne Hillerman has picked up the mantle of his popular Leaphorn and Chee series. Cave of Bones is the 4th Leaphorn/Chee novel by Hillerman and if it is any indication, this series has a lot of life left in it. This book centers around a new character, Tribal Police Officer Bernadette Manuelito, as she tackles two different cases: a human skeleton discovered by a young girl on a camping trip with an at-risk teen program and the disappearance of one of the instructors for this program, who happened to be the one to first go searching the young girl when she became lost. The investigations will take Manuelito down a long and winding path and ultimately to an old case to which Joe Leaphorn has a connection. With a snowstorm on the way and her husband, Sgt. Jim Chee tied up with a mystery of his own, Manuelito will have to call upon all her training to solve both mysteries before time runs out.

Anne Hillerman has honored her father in the best way possible by not only continuing the Chee/Leaphorn series but staying true to her father's vision for the series. I give this novel 4/5 stars.
