In 1946, CBS put Sam Spade on the radio with Howard Duff (as the super-sleuth). Recalling Humphrey Bogart as Sam Spade, I noticed immediately that Duff plays the part with more bantering than Bogart. Because the dialogue is so sharp and hard-boiled, both methods of playing Sam Spade works just fine, in my opinion.

These 12 radio programs include everything (all original voices and the sound effects), including the advertising for Wildroot Cream Oil. I checked, and it is still available! Who knew? Obviously, Wildroot sponsored all of the shows.

Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I thoroughly enjoyed stepping back in time and hearing sharp, clever dialogue. I understand that the scriptwriters won an Edgar Award for Best Radio Drama from the Mystery Writers of America in 1947.
