This book is billed as a book for teens but, as a middle school teacher, I felt this book was more for those who were college-aged and above. The writing is very sophisticated as are many of the topics covered in the books. The protagonist is a thirteen-year old who begins as a typical thirteen-year old but, by the end of the book, it is difficult to think of her as anything less than a twenty-something. Less fantastical and romantic than other teen vampire books, The Society of S, shows a darker side of vampirism. The book is intriguing but at times, the plot is slow. The exception to this is the end of the book which ends rapidly and leaves the reader feeling cheated. This book is entertaining and worthwhile but will appeal to a different crowd than the Twilight fans.
