When I had read the blurb on the back of this novel, I had mediocre expectations...the story of a teenage girl, murdered, watching her family from her custom built heaven, narrarating their, and her, story? It sounded sickly sweet, almost contrived, but, seeing raving reviews, I decided to give the book a try. What I found was Alice Sebold has created a beautiful, poignant story that touches the heart and soul without being sappy or preachy or even judgemental about her demise. It simply "is." The writing style is refreshing, the novel flows well and the character development is impressive. Highly recommended!
