For a new-to-me author, Sabrina York surprised me with a very entertaining and wildly romantic marriage of convenience. That is, Hannah believed it was a marriage of convenience, but Alexander knew after one encounter that she was the woman for him. Could he dare to dream that she would accept him? Alexander was all kinds of vulnerable. He had to fight his childhood demon (uncle), overcome abuse, and hide his stutter that developed a long-standing insecurity. But he had a tender side and an honorable and loyal heart to protect his clan from the Clearances and an indifferent Scottish/English lord.
Hannah was so frustrated. She was attracted to Alex but hampered by the belief that her property was the reason for his proposal. She was also confused over his alternating reluctance for conversation and his attraction for her (she being the least pretty of her sisters). But once she understood Alex's predicament, and how to approach him, their romance was heaven and a loving example of the transformational influence a couple can have on one another. A solid four stars.
