Joe Egan is a decent man who spends his life boarding planes and buses, living off his poker winnings, abandoning women he is in love withhes been living out of a suitcase (like a madman or a man in fear of his life) trying to avoid the reappearance of the blond woman w/purple eyes (who h 1st met when he was just 11) who said she knew his dad & asked for directions to find Mr Morgan (found dead within hours) & waved to him the next time she showed up (then his mom died within hours)the woman following him for years

Reviews: As Purple Eyes is far more clever than a mob hit-squad & Death is unstoppable, the mystery here is if-when-where-&-how poor Joe is going to get it...this is a gem. Barcelona A fascinating counterpoint to his earlier masterpiece. Guardian
