After offering extracts from contemporary reports of anti-Chinese attitudes, riots, etc. from earlier years, the author provides an excellent snapshot of the situation of the Chinese American in 1970. One informant is a recent Vietnam vet
"Were you the only Asian in the unit? 'Yes.' What kind of treatment did you receive? 'Well, a couple of days after I arrived the Viet Cong started shelling us. Then the other GIs started making comments about me looking like the Viet Cong.' How did you react? 'I didn't do nothing. I was just doing a job.
