I'm so torn about this book, and this series on the whole.

For the first 80% of the book I couldn't stop thinking about how every single thing that was happening absolutely did not need to happen. If Lucky would just speak up for himself and do what he know is right instead of trying desperately to make everyone else happy, things could get accomplished so much more quickly and all of the events in The Hidden Enemy could have been skipped.

Then the last fifth of the book happened. And it became clear that everything that happened had to happen in order to get the end point (and, in turn, the next book). It doesn't change the fact that Lucky is one of the most frustrating characters I've ever read, but there is a better clarity.

I also am really pleased that the title actually refers to Lucky himself.

Personally, I like the wild pack more than the leashed dogs. I think they are more intriguing characters I hope the next book brings more back story on Alpha, Sweet, and Moon.
