Each story is gripping in it's own rite, with the common factor between them all being a beautiful, descriptive language that sucks you right into the author's head. Themes here range from the completely universal, like unpopularity and sex drive, to things completely unfamiliar to most readers like growing up in a third-world country, or living with fatal illness. Many of these stories are so interesting, I wanted to go out and buy the writer's other works immediately.
But, to be fair, I'll admit the whole thing gets a bit repetitive by the sixteenth or seventeenth story. There are only so many takes you can read on losing your friends or your first sexual encounters before you want to move on to something with a little more variety. Perhapps this book is best when not read all at once. But still, I'd say a worth-while read for anyone who is, or had to endure their teenage years.
