People sleep everywhere: 71st Regiment Armory, Grand Central Station, Penn Station, dark skylines, restaurants serving by candlelight, and there are sellers of lanterns on the streets. This instant book, published November 1965, tells the story of the blackout in the Northeastern USA on 9 November 1965. Chapter 15 Times By Candlelight ends the book with the story of the scramble to obtain some illumination, the dispatch of reporters on various beats to cover the blackout, hasty editing, and the decision to go to the Newark News, an afternoon paper, and print the NY Times. The 10 November edition had only ten pages instead of the planned 96 pages, but no other New York daily was published that day.
