Because she was adopted by friends of his family, author Reid Robertson has always had contact with Amy, the daughter he and his ex-girlfriend, Nina Kennerly, gave up for adoption nearly 20 years earlier, even if she doesn't know who he is. But when she shows up on his doorstep with a daughter of her own, wanting to know who her birth parents are, he winds up with Nina back in his life. Joan Kilby's Beach Baby (3) is a nice story about a couple getting a second chance at love. But the plot suffers because it lacks emotional reality. Readers may find it hard to believe that Nina will forgive Reid so easily for not telling her who adopted their daughter, and Amy seems to get over any anger too quickly.
