If you're a JR Ward fan, you can't read this book expecting it to be just like her Black Dagger Brotherhood series because it's not that. It's different, but different isn't always bad. Fallen Angels is not paranormal romance. It's grittier, and more action oriented like urban fantasy books. The romance is there, but ancillary to the story, and not the main focus like in the BDB series.
Some secondary characters from the BDB series appear in the book, but the main story revolves around new characters who aren't necessarily as compelling as the Black Dagger Brothers. The love scenes are not up to par with what's in the BDB Series, but it's still better than so many other paranormal romance books. I found the story intriguing enough to continue with the series.
