Based on the famous (and still unsolved) axe murders of an entire family in Villisca, Iowa, in the early 20th century.
The Porters. Why was this family murdered? How was it possible that not one of the eight victims was aroused while the killer went from room to room?
The murders, and the ensuing investigation, captured the nation's imagination and concern. That this could happen in the farmlands of Iowa, where doors were never locked and strangers were always welcome, demonstrated all too clearly that it could surely happen anywhere.
