As usual,Robert McCammon never fails to excite the reader and enlighten them of the harsh ways of life in the early 1700's. This book is a continuing story of Matthew Corbitt and his partner, Hudson Greathouse. They seem to have bitten off more than they could chew this time, when they transport a crazed prisoner from the asylum to stand before the courts for his purported inhumanities to man. Mr. Slaughter is his name, and he aptly lives up to his name. This man is the nutcase of all times, and without giving anything away- he escapes from the gentlemen and goes on a wild rampage. It is up to Greathouse and Corbitt to stop this maniac from destroying everyone in his path. I could hardly put the book down and am anxious for the next chapter in this series. McCammon rules!!
