Julia's step-grandfather, the old Earl, leaves his family well provided for when he dies. All, that is, except for JULIA who faces the prospect of penury UNLESS she marries one of the Earl's five nephews within one month
The prospect of gaining rich properties and land promised to whoever becomes her husband ensures that she is courted assiduously by her step-cousins, each for his own, selfish, reasons.
All but one cousin, that is, for the Earl's heir and now the new Earl, does not need Julia's money and prospects. In fact, he detests Julia for her unladylike, impulsive behaviour and she in turn cannot bear to be in the company of this arrogant, self-righteous beast ! - Until Julia is abducted to force her into an unwanted marriage !
Then our hero discovers that the violent feelings Julia arouses in him are not all motivated by hatred !

This novel has well-sketched, and interesting characters that make the unusual plot credible.

It bristles throughout with suspense and barely suppressed passion.
