Excellent novel, in which an implausible premise is beautifully handled. For once, in a novel like this -- a Literary Science Fiction novel of BIG IDEAS -- the payoff at the end is worth all of the philosophizing, the preciously beautiful prose, the slightly dozy main character that has gone before.

Faber has clearly read and appreciated Ray Bradbury, Stanislaw Lem, and some other classic SF novels which recognize that, sometimes, it's the humans who are the aliens ...
