This book for me was almost indescribable. It is so well written and complex that it seems hard to digust which made it hard to review.

The character of Lisbeth Salander was difficult for me. There are aspect of her that I really liked, but I wouldn't say she is a likable character. She is a victim of the system that she lives in, but in some ways she then makes others victims too. And the lack of emotion she has and shares is almost unbelievable. I have never read a character like her--and I am nto sure that I ever want to again. She is not easy to read but she is incredibly well written.

The character of Mikael Blomkvist was easier for me to determine that I liked until the very end. On the very last page I found that I really wanted to hit him. Part of that feeling may have been that I felt like Lisbeth was finally starting going to open up and now wasn't. Or it may be that I just don't care for the open relationship with a married woman.

But I am excited to read the next book so I can see these characters again. And I think that is Stieg Larsson's real gift. Even if you can't say you like the characters, you are mesmorized by them. And you want to know what is going to happen next.
