Not your typical vampire book. Told through the eyes of a young girl, Ariella Montero lives a rather sheltered life with her father in a small town. As the story unfolds, the girl begins to question the rather odd behaviour of her father and the changes she finds within herself. She searches out with stories from her father and then a journey south to find out the truth about her family and her lineage. A very good set up for a series of books. Her continual awakening to what and who she was kept me reading as well as the mystery of her family.
