Mike Ryan truly seems to epitomize the very essence of evil. This hate-filled individual was able to convince himself, as well as his own family and a small band of friends and acquaintances, that God spoke directly to him and dictated his preparation for the apocalypse. As his behavior became more cruel and bizarre, his followers continued to believe in him even as their fear of him grew. Only after Ryan directed the torture and murder of two of his group, one a small child, did his terrible reign of terror culminate in his arrest and conviction. This is a disturbing book.
