Ethan's not-so-dead sire, Balthazar, is in Chicago and ready to make trouble. He hates Ethan and will do anything to destroy him. He also wants to take cover Cadogan House. As Merit and Ethan try to predict Balthazar's next move, they are invited by her father to a party attended by Chicago's rich and famous. They are at the party when one of the human guests is attacked. Merit and Ethan stop the assassination attempt, but not before realizing the attackers are vampires from Navarre House.

This is an excellent addition to the Chicagoland Vampires series. Merit and Ethan are juggling several problems in this book. Merit discovers that she is now vulnerable to Balthazar's glamour. This leaves her hesitant in going face to face with him. With Mallory and Catcher helping Cadogan House fortify against Balthazar, Merit and Ethan have time to discover what exactly is going on at Navarre House. My rating: 5 Stars.
