MomUmental by Jennifer Grant is one of the best books (outside of the Bible) on the subject of mothering that I have so far. The theme is not one of "how" to mother, but rather is one of reassurance that we're all in this great act of motherhood together. We'll make mistakes, but we'll do our best - and our kids will likely turn out alright. Mrs. Grant believes mothers should bolster each other up rather than criticize on others' parenting skills. You'll laugh some while reading this book but you'll realize that you're pretty normal too.
