3 stars. The elements were there to make a really good story: domineering, scarred hero, lonely heroine. Somehow, though, it fell a little flat. I did feel Katie fell for Cain way too fast, especially considering how badly he treated her (for his own emotional safety, of course). But I love huge, domineering heroes and his attraction to Katie felt genuine. Their relationship could have been better developed for a more satisfying read.
