Though an excellent read, the first 2/3 of New Moon is emotionally difficult to get through. The author recommends reading it twice. The first time, people skip pages to get through the heartache. The second read lets the reader enjoy the story.
The first part of the book follows Bella as she obsesses over Edward. Her reckless behavior seems to spawn hallucinations of Edward's voice. After a cliff jumping stunt, Edward believes that Bella has died and visits the Volturi on a suicidal mission.
Meanwhile the werewolves back at La Push is on the trail of Victoria and Laurent. Victoria is out to kill the defenseless Bella as revenge for the death of her lover in Twilight.
