I was really intrigued with the original premise of this story. I loved the idea of a hero that didn't have that typical Presents aura of physical perfection. There was potential for this to be a deep, moving story, and I was really looking forward to it and to meeting these two characters, based on what I'd read on the back-of-the-book blurb. However, this book didn't do anything for me.
My biggest problem: I didn't feel any connection with Zoe at all. The storyline was that she had a huge shock -- her father isn't who she thought he was -- and she went off the rails; I understand that part. But, based on the types of things she said about herself, I don't get the impression that she really went off the rails as much as she just dialed her regular, aimless behavior up a few notches by drinking more and staying out later. She came across as a vain, loose, party-girl socialite and didn't do much to grow from that.
