I usually love Nicola Cornick's books, she has wonderful historical context, excellent dialog, and captivating characters. In the case of Lord Greville's Captive, the history overwhelms the book and ruins the romance. Written during the rise of Oliver Cromwell, the book features a hero and heroine on opposite sides of the civil war. It is hard to enjoy the book knowing that Cromwell's success was shortlived and that the hero most likely would have been executed a few years later when the royal family was returned to power. That cast a shadow over the story, which was already quite serious.
