This is the 4th book I have read by Elin Hilderbrand, and I'm glad it wasn't the first, because I probably never would have read another of her novels. This is set in Nantucket, like all her other books, but I could not get interested in the 3 main protagonists, with a shared backstory of annual night swimming on the Friday of Labor Day Weekend. I could not tell much about any of the characters, as their stories were not clearly delineated; I kept turning back to remember who was Kayla, or Val, or Antoinette. A mystery develops after 50 or so pages, which did renew my interest somewhat, as I wanted to find out what happened to Antoinette, the mysterious black woman & former ballerina, who disappeared on the 20th anniversary of the Night Swimmers. The ending was good, but the whole story was lukewarm and mysterious.
