Patricia Harwin does it again. Having introduced a "charming, compassionate" heroine in Arson and Old Lace, she shows once again in Slaying is such Sweet Sorrow why an American woman in her sixties in an old English town can unearth a whole lot of trouble.

Having solved out the truth behind a deadly house fire in Arson and Old Lace, Catherine Penny has to deal with painful memories of the ex-husband who not only abandoned her for another woman after 30 years of marriage, now he has brought her to England to visit their daughter who lives not far from Catherine. Catherine can't avoid him and his lady friend at the award ceremony for her son-in-law to be chosen as appointment to be the head of his department at Oxford College, but finds that none of the past matters when a pompous, womanizing scholar is found murdered with Peter standing over his body and arrested for his murder. Catherine has to find the real killer and help her daughter get her family back together again, as well as deal with the ex-husband and his "barbie" doll girlfriend.

A fun read and Catherine as a great heroine. Tricia harwin does it again with this delightful new series.
