He covered the war for the BBC, leaving in 1968 under fire by those who believed his reportage favored Biafra. This book is also of interest to admirers of his fiction, such as the Odessa File, the Day of the Jackal, the Fist of God, etc. Like all of his work, the Biafra Story reflects his careful research. "Intellectually Ojukwu towered above the rest, and they seemed to know it. To make sure there were no later misinterpretations as to what had been decided, a complete stenographic record and a tape recording was made of the entire discussion. Later when Gowon reneged on the agreement, Ojukwu released the entire text of the two-day discussions as a set of six gramophone records."
