Although Victoria came to the British throne through a quirk of fate, she outlived and out-ruled her contemporaries. Her offspring married so many other royals that Victoria was called "the Grandmother of Europe." I think she would have liked that moniker. I've read books about Queen Victoria, but this one filled in gaps and helped show how really human both Albert and Victoria were. It was very interesting to learn that Queen Victoria carried the gene for hemophilia, which affected so many people over the generations. One surprising fact was the number of attempts made against Queen Victoria, and even Albert. This book is engaging reading.
