sweet!
A very long time ago there lived a little old lady named Eve. She was very poor and grew things in a garden to have enough to eat. She grew green beans, tomatoes, carrots, corn, potatoes, and pumpkins. Eve needed the things she grew there in order to survive through the cold winter. Every day Eve would tend her garden by weeding and tying up vines. Eve would hum a sweet tune while she worked, thinking the plants would enjoy a lullaby and grow better. Try as she might though, she could never get much to grow in the garden beside her cottage. Eve asked the birds to help her out with the tricky pests that ate her tender young plants and in return she would save seeds to feed them in winter. The birds were doing their best to help Eve, but birds can only eat what they can see. One day while poor Eve was looking over her garden she found a ladybug sitting on her garden fence. She asked the ladybug if she knew of anything that would help her garden grow better. The ladybug told her that she could see that the birds were doing their best to help but they could not see some of the smaller insects eating away at the stems of her vegetables. Eve was beside herself as to what to do. The ladybug offered to help if Eve would let her live in the warm house during the winter. Eve had always liked the ladybug and quickly agreed. To this very day the lovely lucky ladybug overwinters in our houses then goes out in the spring to eat up the pests in our garden that the birds cannot see. |
