Man, it's taken awhile to get to this part. The finale of this section of Alex's story. I loved all the feedback that I received while writing it, and do indeed wish to receive more and write more about this particular world. I hope that for everyone who has gotten this far it was an enjoyable story. For all the people out there who followed these events and who helped me finish the story thank you. Wow, I feel special writing this about a story that I wrote for fun... I'm so glad that I finished it and would love to hear what kinds of stories should be told about this world. Can't wait to hear from you guys. Muah! You've been a great audience, so long and goodnight. For now.

You know, awhile ago something gurgled outside of my door. I don't know what it was, but the rough noises indicated it needed help. So I began to scream, I screamed and screamed until the gurgling stopped. It was an annoying sound and once it stopped I stopped. Then it began again, and I couldn't help it. The noise was so annoying that I threw myself against my door to make it stop. I hate it when I hear something like that. It makes me want to destroy something, kind of like those white sores against your tongue, or uneven things on your face. Which reminds me, the other day I caught a glimpse of my face in the glass on those funny pokey things that the nurses stick me with, and my nose is crooked. Bulbous and knobbly, with a definite bend to the left. I should make it go away.
Back to the other story though. The one about the annoying noise. The gurgling ended up changing into a croaking, and I knew it needed to be stopped, so I began to call for the nurses. I yelled and rolled and banged so much that finally they came and put the nice juice into my skin and outside my door I saw a person on the floor with large purple bruises on her neck. That's what the noises were. A white bed with wheels was being pushed and a large black cloud hovered over it, but soon enough I was in happy land. And now here they come again. I think today I shall have a wonderful time talking to Barb while running through the green grass. It seems like a lovely day for that.
Can I, Sarah? Can I? I want to run through the grass with Barb again. PLEASE? CAN I? I REALLY JUST WANT TO-

A week after Alex called Sid and Ethan died, Maggie got the okay to leave St. Mary's. She waited for hours in the main hall, but no one came to pick her up. Alex noticed her sitting quietly in the corner and wondered why she was still there. He slowly walked over to the hard plastic seats and took her hand.
"Maggie? Did your family not come for you? If you want I can take you home to them... I get off my shift in about," he checked the small digital watch on his wrist. "Five minutes, we can leave the Home together. Would you like to do that?"
Turning her head to face him, Maggie nodded and Alex could see the fear in her eyes. He remembered that she hadn't set foot outside of her room for years, let alone outside. Smiling to himself he went to the employee locker room and changed out of his white scrubs and into his street clothes. Grabbing his scarf from the shelf in his private cubby, Alex re-entered the main hall of the Home.
He headed over to Maggie and wrapped the striped scarf around her neck, pulling her chin up so that he could see her face.
"Come on Mag, lets get out of here."
Alex took her hand and pulled her out of the waiting room into the hallway between doors and for the first time in five years, Maggie Larks walked outside into the sun.

I like Maggie and Alex but introductions to new characters, in this world, would be just as entertaining.

You've done such a great job with this. I've enjoyed it, thank you. I'm excited to see what other characters and tales are in this world as well as seeing what happens with Maggie and Alex. Well Done!

Hey Sky, this would make a good full length novel. I also think it would be interesting to follow Maggie's story as she enters back into society. Maybe she starts a relationship with Alex. There's all sorts of directions it could go.

I hope to write a few connected short stories and compile them into a book entitled 'Where Shadows Lie.' They will be arranged by order of events, and there will be one common connecting factor to them, though I will not disclose it at this time, I'll let you find out yourself. I will try to work on them and post them here on PBS as often as I can, but be warned I have a loose and jumpy brain that will skip around on you, so it won't be entered in the final order on here.
