I've been getting a lot of PMs lately. People just asking me to look at their shelf, people asking if I have an ereader cause they have a lot of my WLed books in pdf for, people asking me to just swap books with them. I even had one when I opened it up all it said was "Hi"....That's it, just Hi. Anybody else receiving these? And why now all of a sudden? |

No haven't been as popular as you. I've been having the reverse problem. I've sent people PM's that have requests for specific books that I can give them a deal on and they don't respond at all. No even a thanks but no. Maybe its your friendly picture draws people to you. Just beeing silly. |

Nope. No PMs in weeks. I have few buddies, I mean friends. |

The people that are PMing me are not on my friends list either so I have no idea where they are getting my name to send the PMs. |

PDF books are not allowed. Were they asking for a credit? I wonder if maybe they should be reported..or at least have the rules sent to them regarding that |

They didn't come right out and say that. They just asked if I had an ereader because they had a lot of my WL book in pdf form....that's it. |

Nope, no strange PMs here either. Ebooks aren't transferrable anyway. Not exactly legal to burn a copy and send it to someone else. |

Hm. That sounds sort of shady and possibly bot-like. Did they have anything actually posted to their accounts? I would report it. YMMV |

No unusual pm's for me either Aaron. But I would be tempted to report members mentioning e-books, b/c transferring ownership is illegal and therefore not allowed through PBS. |

Yeah they had a pretty large bookshelf and they had stuff of their WL too! They didn't have a profile but the earliest book that was posted on their bookshelf was from 2/2010. |

I'd guess you come up pretty close to the top of the member directory with Aa starting your name and the nutters go to the beginning of that and start PMing. |

I haven't received any PMs this week that haven't been completely above board and somehow related to a post or whatever. I should be fairly close to the top of the member directory too. Maybe next week they'll make it to me. lol |

Are your private messages from this person - http://www.paperbackswap.com/forum/topic.php?t=213780 they just admited to PMing a bunch of people. i haven't gotten any. |

No they are not coming from her. I don't have any post out there looking for book or deals on books. And everyone that had PMd me has no forum posts. But I did look and I am on the first page of the member directory page so I am assuming like Melanie said that these people just start at the top of the directory and start PMing. |

Bummer...I love Spam, Spam, Eggs & Spam, but Spam & Books just make a greasy mess. Maybe you could change your name to ZZtop to avoid the rush? :o) Cheryl |

No strange PMs here, but you could have been "bot bounced". PMs with similiar short messages are suspect. -RD |

I have recently gotten several unsolicited PMs asking me to look at their shelves...don't know these folks...know what books I want...I just ignore them. Having said that, if I continued to get them from a member, ultimately I think I would refer the PMs to TPTB. I regard unsolicitied PMs as spam. If they are a Friend, that is another matter, but I don't welcome unsolicited PMs to check out somebody's shelf -- and the one time I did, their shelf was filled with a genre that I would not read if they were the last books on earth. |

I've had the same trouble as Janice. Members make posts in the BB asking for deals on certain books. I respond, saying I have the books and a deal and then I never hear back. And it's not as if they haven't been back to the site since, because they have new posts that they made the next day. If they're not interested in my deal, at least PM back and decline. I find it very frustrating to go to the trouble of checking my shelf and making an effort to find what they want, only to be ignored. And the same goes for people advertising a deal - I PM that I'm interested and want such and such and never hear back. That happens less frequently, but it does happen. Why make a post trying to move books and then never get back to someone that wants them? I know life gets busy and it may be a day or two before someone can PM back - I'm not expecting an immediate response - but it would be nice to get an answer back at some point.
