I send out 4 books on 4/4 with the quick credit DC. Two of them were delivered on 4/8, one on 4/9 and one on 4/11 according to the delivery confirmation numbers. However, none of these books have been marked as received. I have gotten my credit for them because I used quick credit, thank goodness, but I am wondering what happens if the people who received these books never mark them as received?

I don't have alot of faith in the post office's definition of "delivered".  I've had books coming to me that the delivery confirmation shows as delivered a solid week before they actually showed up in my mailbox.

Wait a few days (5 to 7) and then politely pm the receiver and ask if the books were received or if one of you needs to contact the post office regarding a mis-delivery.  If the receiver has not responded in 3 to 5 days contact TPTB with the delivery/transaction number.  If the receivers are non-responsive or inactive PBS will want to know.  One of the few times a member is required to respond to pm's is in the case of problem (or potential problem) transactions.

From the Help Center:

If you sent the book with Delivery Confirmation and it has been recorded as delivered by USPS but hasn't been marked received yet:

  • Remember that the book could have been scanned as "delivered" at the local PO, before it went to the requestor's mailbox--the actual delivery can be a few days later  Also, the book could have been misdelivered.
    • The requestor should check with her mail carrier about this package.
    • The package could also be at her local PO being held for pickup; sometimes pickup notices left by the mail carrier go astray.
  • You should FIRST contact the requestor using the button on the transaction on the Books I've Mailed tab in My Account when a few days have passed after delivery.
    • If the requestor does not respond to your PM within a week, and/or has not marked the book received by a week after the delivery scan, contact us.  We will look into it.
    • If the requestor responds and says she or he DID get the book, she or he can mark the book received one of two ways:
      • if the book has NOT been declared lost in the mail at PBS - from his or her active transactions (on the En Route to Me tab on My Account) as described in How to Mark a Book Received.
      • if the book HAS been declared lost in the mail at PBS - from his or her Transaction Archive (linked from the top of the My Account page)  as described in I received a book that was 'lost in the mail'.
  • If you used DC purchased through PBS, or PBS Printed Postage, you will already have gotten your credit for sending the book.

Thanks Melanie, I was looking for that section of the guidelines  smiley

Some post offices mark the book 'received' instead of 'received at unit', and then do not have time to process and deliver the media mail for several days or more.  Also, are some schools on spring break?  Members could be out of town.

Another possibility that is being overlooked is that the receiver(s) may still be on vacation and have not returned home. Or, they could have been  hospitolized suddenly. Either of those could explain why the books were not marked received yet.

If the receiver is like me, maybe they haven't picked up their mail yet.  I have a PO box and can only pick up my mail on Fridays and Saturedays.

I mailed a book with PBS Postage and D/C and it shows it was delivered on the 8th of April. I pmed the receiver but she said she didn't receive it yet. I noticed that she has an apartment address so pmed her back asking her to check with her neighbors and super. Already received my credit, so that's not my worry. I just like the people that I send books out to, actually receive them.

In response to Connie's suggestion--I live in an apartment, and I would not, personally, go knocking on neighbor's doors in search of books. Since it is an apartment, the neighbors do change fairly regularly and I don't even know most of the people who live in my building. . There are 30 apartments in my building alone and the apt. office in my building takes package delivery for the whole complex, which is another 3 buildings. I always check (and double check if the book is scanned delivered) in the office, but I wouldn't go door knocking.
