Charles van der Leeuw (born 18 July 1952, The Hague) is a Dutch journalist currently based in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
After a study composition at the Amsterdam Conservatory, he became a journalist. Working for Dutch public broadcaster VARA he had been stationed in Beirut during the height of the Lebanese civil war, where he was kidnapped and endured a lengthy period of incarceration. For most of the 1990s van der Leeuw lived in Baku, Azerbaijan where he wrote several books on the Caucasus oil industry and regional history while contributing to local newspapers including Caspian Business News. He remained a major regional correspondent after moving to Kazakhstan where he is now editorial manager of Caspian Publishing House.
