I received a book today and I don't think it falls into acceptable condition but it is not specifically addressed. The front cover is in tacat, however, the front cover has a die-cut hole where I should be able to view a second cover. The hole looks onto inroductory page and there is yellwoing where that hole is.

While I don't think it affects the book, I don't know how other swappers will feel and I don't want to get stuck with a dud that I can't swap. Wahtshould I do?

Sounds like a step-back cover and someone maybe pulled out the inside cover if it was really pretty, leaving just the top cover with the cut-out. There was a thread about this some time back, but I don't remember what the general consensus was because, technically you could say there's a cover and it's intact.

Personally I'd like both front covers to be attached to the book for aesthetic purposes, but I'd probably mark it a RWAP but not ask for a credit back if the rest of the book isn't damaged. Does anyone know if there's something about step-backs in the guidelines?

That missing page is called the stepback (I think!) and according to previous discussions months ago about exactly the same thing, that page must be present to be postable.

Edited to add: I just checked with the previous discusion which was almost two years ago and club members were divided on whether that was postable or not. A good suggestion was made though...check with your Tour Guide or contact the Team before marking the book received because this is such a grey area. Another good point that was made in the previous discusion was that no more than 1" can be missing from the cover and since the stepback is definitely part of the cover, that would be more than 1".

I remember the discussion, but I can't find it. I remember that someone contacted TPTB and they said that the step-back is part of the cover and if it is missing it is unpostable.

Thanks for posting that link, Amber!

Kate, if you haven't already guessed, your book is unpostable due to "sender damage" and you should RWAP it.
