Thoughts: Another great installment from Marlene Perez! I liked this book a lot better than the first, it kept me wanting more and wondering what was going to happen. I especially liked the twist with Ryan. Lets just say, I did see it coming but it was still pretty great! I also was drawn to Duke, even though I shouldn't have been, but I always seem to like the guy we're not supposed to like. This book was another light read. Would be good for when you don't want to read that 500 page book and just want something light and funny!!!

Overall: Awesome book! Definitely held my interest and would recommend this series to everyone! I particularly like the characters, and they are all have their differences which make them special!

This is one of the best books I have ever read. It is the second book to the Dead Is series. The author ,Marlene Perez, describes the main character as a high school girl who is in a family of psychic. The main character, Daisy, is described as a layed back girl but has alot of problems such as her boyfriend, Ryan, seems to be hanging with a very pritty girl and Daisy doesn't like it. This book is amazing because the auther gives great description of the characters that are introduced and what is happening in her small town of Night Shade. Perez even gives the characters thought on everything that is happening like, "My high heels would make to much noise on the marble staircase." She tells you that she is wearing heels and that on a marble staircase, it will be to loud. This is why I will rate this book a 10 becasue I love the way she wrote this book.

Great second installment. LOVE the series!

Its Prom season in Nightshade. Rose is dating a werewolf, Poppy is dating a ghost, and Daisy is... well having some problems there. Ryan is being really standoff-ish lately. Hes been seen around town with the new Wilder girl, Elise. Daisy keeps getting hit on by the new hunk who claims to be a fortune teller.

To make matters worse, one of there teachers is murdered and found in the park with claw marks??? Could this be the work of a werewolf attack? The police are saying yes... the Counsil members are saying no. Daisy doesnt know who to trust, but she sure figures it out at the prom.

I really enjoyed this second installment. Daisy is growing into her powers and becomming more mature. Shes faced with the heartache of a breakup, and finds there are more secrets in her small town now than ever. I cannot wait to read the next book!

Daisy Giordano is back for another installment of Nightshade, CA, weirdness.

This time, a beloved teacher has been murdered - and it looks like a werewolf is to blame. To top off everything else, a new and handsome student named Duke Sherrad moves into town proclaiming to be a fortune teller descended from Gypsies.

Daisy doesn't believe he is authentic and hopes to prove he is a fraud. She suspects he is connected to the teacher's death in some way and works with her sisters to solve the case.

Daisy's relationship with Ryan is put to the test and Poppy finds love in a very strange place. All of this takes place while Daisy is in charge of planning the Prom's After Party.

DEAD IS A STATE OF MIND is just as enjoyable as the first book in the series, DEAD IS THE NEW BLACK. While you will probably enjoy this story if you were to pick it up first, it would be better if you had the back-story from the previous book.

Also, be sure to look for the third in the series, DEAD IS SO LAST YEAR.

I'm finding books for a young reader and I read them first:

I can reccommend this for young readers starting at the age of 12 or 13 but not before, the story is about teenagers and mentions 'kissing' a lot and a few words that a younger reader would (or should) not know what they mean.

The story is cute and the subject of werewolves and vampires and physics should appeal to this age group as it is popular thing right now.
