This was my 2nd book I've read from Katie MacAlister and it surely won't be the last! She writes in an amusing, entertaining way. I loved the story of the half-elf Sam and the Dark One Paen she falls in love with.

Good read with a few twists on the vamp plots. Sexy vamp hero teams up with half-elf Samantha to find a relic which will save his mother's life. Laughs, thrills and you can try to figure out who is working with, or against, who.

So far this is the best one I've read in the Dark Ones series. As the author states in a cute forward in the book, this Vampire is Scottish due to a swell fan-based requests that she write another vampire book with a Scottish hero (yes, there is a scene with a kilt). The heroine, Samantha Crosse is half-Elf and half-mortal which makes for an interesting character. The Dark One, Paen Scott (pron: pain) is the typical dark, brooding vampire, but unlike previous books he is not interested in finding his Beloved, nor does he believe Sam is his even with all the evidence to the contrary. Some very funny parts, a couple of sexy bits too. Lots of twists and turns in the plot. Overall an enjoyable read. Gave it 4 stars.

I bit of brain candy for your summer vacation. A shallow read, but with MacAlister's usual humor.

A nice weekend read about a Scottish, kilt-wearing Vampire. What's not to love? ;-) Trademark Macalister humor and fun.

Oh, I love this book. It made me laugh, and cry. It was very well written and it has all kinds of fairy's, elf's, vampires, and demons in it to make it a little out of the ordinary.

An easy read. Only downside female lead is jumping on her male counterpart constantly. Could use a little less jumping.

Yet another delicious Dark One book by Katie Mac. Hilarious, touching, surprising... possibly her best one yet! Heroine is, um, bi-racial - maybe make that bi-species? She's half human, half sun-elf. Interesting match for a man who's all Dark One. Throw in a supermodel cousin (who just happens to be a flower-eating faery - but is in serious denial about it), a few denizens of Otherworld, and did I mention that the hero also happens to be Scottish? And that we get to see him in a kilt? What more could you want? Well, if you insist, he also has three brothers, equally dishy...
This book was one of the better ones in th is series.
Pean Scott, Dark One: vampire without a soul. Samantha Cross, half-elf & former diviner - Find each other in a 'I don't want to admit I am in love with you but I'll commit to a good roll in the sack with you relationship.' The tension between these two in the beginning of this saga is a nail bitter. But as the story's plot unfolds I became ultimately bored with the "where is my monkey statue?" scenario. The only thing that propelled my to finish this story was the relationship between Pean and Samantha. The battle scene between the demon gods was worth reaching the end of this read.

I usually like Kate MacAlister, and this book was a good enough read, but I ended up re-listing it, so that means it wasn't good enough for me to keep. Basically a good entertaining weekend/summer read, but easy to let go.
Very good book I love Books that are funny and has a good story line and is fast paced.
I haven't really liked most of the books in this series but this one is very good. Vampire Paen is your typical tortured hero though not so much because he was tortured perse. He was born without a soul and as a Dark One he has no hope unless he finds his Beloved. He, of course, doesn't believe this is possible and feels hopeless. When searching for a missing artifact for Paen, Samantha falls head over heels for Paen. The ensuing battle - two actually - the first is Samantha trying to get through to Paen and the second is with the demon harrassing Paen for the statue. All in all lots of tension both sexual and physical.
I loved the dialogue between Paen and Samantha. It was both humorous and touching. Ain't love grand?

I really loved this book such good writing, and the humor AH so funny! Great characters, the kind of people who you can't wait to get to know and love. Katie puts a very interesting twist on the vampire world.
A definite must for anyone looking for Humor, Romance, Vampires, Interesting Ladies, and of course the Hot Guys they fall for!

Fun contemporary vampire romance--with a dash of elves, fairies, and other entertaining characters. A witty and altogether amusing read!
One of the better ones in the series!
Paen Scott is a Dark One: a vampire without a soul. And his mother is about to lose hers too if Paen can't repay a debt to a demon by finding a relic known as the Jilin God in five days.
Half-elf Samantha Cosse may have gotten kicked out of the Order of Diviners, but she's still good at finding things, which is why she just opened her own private investigation agency.
Paen is one of Sam's first clients and the only one to set her elf senses tingling, which makes it pretty much impossible to keep their relationship on a professional level. Sam is convinced that she is Paen's Beloved-the woman who can give him back his soul...whether he wants it or not.

Wow! What a H-O-T book. Romance between a male vampire and a half elf/human female. Very interesting. Great writing and plot, although it got to be a little much at the end with the demons and sun gods and stuff, but definitely not to be missed! This author also writes great young adult novels under the name Katie Maxwell.
Great addition to the series!!

This book seemed abit more choppy and some new magical stuff (nature of faeries, etc.) could have been expanded upon. Heroin was also abit too accepting of new things at face value.

The most recent entry to MacAlister's Dark Ones series was not her best. All the elements were there, but they were not used. I enjoyed the consistency of MacAlister's witty writing, and humor, but I was dismayed at her rushed plot. Once again, this romance novel fell prone to need to put too many characters and details in too few pages. I loved how MacAlister finally brought more of the Otherworld in, but she failed to explain and adapt these new factors to her story.
There were some great scenes (Killer Butterflies!) in this book, I just wish the rest of the novel had lived up to them.

This is another of Katie MacAlister's wonderful stories only this time it involves more of the realm of fantasy. I like the way she worked everyone in and it looks to me that this might be the beginning of a series. A must read for Katie's Fans.
