I had never read any of James Rollins' books, but I certainly will read more in the future. It was a great page turner, full of action, thrills, suspense, and love. It's based the the Arctic Ice Cap with American and Russian military espionage with some sci-fi thrown in.

Very fast paced and imaginative. A very good read. I'd compare it to a Cussler or DuBrul with a touch of Sci-Fi thrown in.

I've read several of Rollins' books & although they all have a common thread, they're very interesting & keep you turning the pages. This author has an awesome imagination. This book is suspenseful & gripping, full of military intrique and even has a couple of romances. I highly recommend this book along with 2 of his other books: Amazonia & Excavation.

Excellent book-definitely on par with others like Cussler and Iles. It starts out strong and finishes strong. A definite must-read.

Having little interest in this type genre & having never read any of Rollin's work, I reluctantly agreed to read this one at my son's urging. I am glad I did so as I found it to be imaginative, captivating & an easy read which was hard to put down. I am now looking forward to "THE JUDAS STRAIN" which I have just received.

I wasnt expecting to like this book because I dont usually like war/soldier/submarine/sharp shooters, etc. you get the idea. But this book was awesome. Yea there were some scenes that included all the above, but the real story had nothing whatsoever to do with that. Its a scary thriller with unexpected twists and new concepts. A real surprise for me, I would definitely recommend to those who like a little of the "unknown"in their books.

didn't take me long to know I would not like this, from the first page it just had too many words I didn't know being Russian or something and I don't like books like that, also too many characters to keep up with and too much descriptions on every page until I just knew I couldn't go on.

I have read other Rollins books and have liked them so I'll keep trying.

James Rollins is one of my favorite authors. His style is fast paced and the plots are often intricate enough that you keep guessing how will the crises be resolved. If you like reading adventure stories with vivid and realistic detail, this is a book for you. I absolutely loved it and wished for more to read.

First book I've read from this author and have ordered 5 more. Great suspense. One of those.....could it really happen? If you love Clive Cussler, you'll love James Rollins.

Almost any book where there the Russians are protagonists, and the Americans the good guys, count me in!
Whats to like: Action, adventure, unlikely heroes, far fetched story lines. It's all good. Makes for good reading on a long commute...as long as you're not driving...

Absolutely loved this book, as good as one of my most favorite author's books any day, Clive Cussler! In fact there is a critics comment by Clive recommending the book! Action, suspense, tiny bit of romance, along with espionage and russian/american shenanigans/past history of bad, bad things! At end of book he even lets you know what's real and what wasn't based on facts. Interestingly enough the "monsters" of the book were something I was just reading about recently in either Nat'l Geographic or Smithsonian can't remember which. Very excited to find such a great read. I intend to order many more of his books in near future as I get credits. They have history, science, action, heroes, the bravery and cowardice of ordinary folks, and an obviously brilliant author's imagination behind them.

"A ROLLER-COASTER...AND A FIRST-CLASS ONE AT THAT... Some asgtonishing threat or daring feat explodes into print on nearly every page." Publishers Weekly
Carved into a moving island of ice twice the size of the United States, Ice Station Grendel has been abandoned for more than seventy years. The twisted brainchild of the finest minds of the former Soviet Union, it was designed to be inaccessible and virtually invisible. But an American undersea research vessel had inadvertently pulled too close--and something has been sighted moving inside the allegedly deserted facility, something whose survival defies every natural law. And now, as scientists, soldiers, intelligence operatives, and unsuspecting civilians are drawn into Grendel's lethal vortex, the most extreme measures possible will be undertaken to protect its dark mysteries--because the terrible truths locked behind submerged walls of ice and steel could end human life of Earth."
I enjoyed this book, I could barely put it down. Trying to figure out how we would get out of the next "situation".

Sort of like Dan Brown's "Deception Point" in that there is a government cover-up and the action takes place in the Arctic. But this book is so much better. There is constant action and so many likeable characters.

My Review
This book was very action-packed with lots of intense moments. The plot was very interesting and I learned a lot about ice caps, ice stations, grendels, frogs, science and history. What more would you want from a book.?The characters were very unique too. Some were good and some were bad but that makes for a great story. I look forward to reading more adventure books by Rollins and I would highly recommend this book to those who love adventure, history or science novels.
