She is the author of Spirits of the Elements series, including Spirits of the Earth, Spirits of the Air, Spirits of the Fire, Spirits of the Water and Spirits of the Aether. Acting as producer, Hawkins, often under the name Denise Channing, has been seen in local media in promotion of the film, taking interviews with radio stations and newspapers. Most notable was her November 2007 appearance on the BBC2 television programme Dragons' Den, although her request for investment was turned down. She claimed a reputable actor would be endorsing her film (later revealed to be Kevin McNally) but nowhere has he confirmed any connection to the project.
