Laura Amy Schlitz is an American author of children's literature. She is a librarian and storyteller at Park School in Baltimore County, Maryland.
She received the 2008 Newbery Medal for her children's book entitled Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! Voices from a Medieval Village. Her other published books are The Bearskinner: A Tale of the Brothers Grimm (2007), A Drowned Maiden's Hair (2006; the book won a Cybil Award that year), and The Hero Schliemann: The Dreamer Who Dug Up Troy (2006).
Schlitz attended Goucher College in Towson, Maryland, and graduated in 1977.

The monologues in this book were written by Laura for the 5th Grade curriculum at The Park School. Each student performs one (or more) of these monologues while learning about the medieval ages. Laura wrote these during an F. Parvin Sharpless Faculty and Curricular Advancement Program or FACA at Park School.
