The offer was irresistable. A cameo role that involved dressing up as Superman was too good to resist, even if the movie was being shot in Manhattan--not Steve Allen's favorite city.
But if the famous comedian thought he had left solving murder mysteries behind in Los Angeles, he was dead wrong. No sooner did he don his Superman costume for the crucial scene than someone staggered into his outstretched arms, a knife in his back!
Everyone it turned out, had an alibi---everyone except Steve Allen.
Being suspected of murder was too much, even for an even-tempered celebrity like Steve. Enlisting the help of his vivacious wife Jayne Meadows, he proceeded to track down the killer in his own inimitable style: inventively, unintentionally, and completely effectively.
