I like Lamott's writing style and in this case it felt like she had lived some of my life! Could not put the book down - good page turner! Can't wait to read a few more of her books - and get them into circulation with PBS.

I loved this book! LaMott has an easy sort of candor that moves the story along at smooth pace. The characters and the way she introduces them reminds me very much of Grace Paley's characters, they have good common horse sense, but are faulty and humorous as well.

Anne Lamott is at her best with this story of a girl's growing up experiences in a fairly dysfunctional family. As with just about all--if not all--of Lamott's books, fiction and nonfiction, the story has much of Lamott's own story woven throughout.
This piece brings a sense of compassion and forgiveness toward the child in all of us, as well as an awareness of the means of grace that come to us through our family members and community in spite of their failings.

This book is an interesting stream-of-consciousness-type book. At first I found it slightly difficult to follow, but I think that was my fault because I was only reading a few pages here and there. Once I got to know the characters better, I found that I could get more into their lives. Anne Lamott's writing is descriptive without being flowery or syrupy, and I did enjoy this book. I would recommend this if you enjoy memoir-type fiction, especially books as told from the point of view of a young child.
