Touching, Thought-Provoking, and Inspirational.
If I had to sum this book up in three words those are what they would be, but thankfully I'm not restricted to three words :-)
This story follows Jones and Andy. Jones is the Noticer, because he notices things that other people can't see. Through the book he comes into peoples lives at the right time, helps them gain a little perspective on the situation they are in, then moves on to help someone else.
I loved this book. Not only was it a quick read (3 hours) but I couldn't put it down. Andy Andrews writes with compassion for his characters (probably because he is one of them). Jones has a way to know exactly what each person he comes in contact needs in order to help them change their lives around. Jones' perspective on life seems so simple, yet many of us fail to see things from his perspective in our own lives.
I became so attached to this story that I cried quite a few times. I think I became attached to each character that Jones helped. And each time he helped someone he simply chalked it up to the person just needed a little perspective.
I normally don't post passages from the books I read but I think this one is worth mentioning: "Most people think it takes a long time to change. It doesn't.Change is immediate! Instantaneous! It may take a long time to decide to change... but change happens in a heartbeat!"
I think everyone should read this. It kind of makes you think about times when you've been in a bad way and what it took or would take to help you get out of it.

"The Noticer" is a book about an old guy most people call Jones, who has a knack for showing up in the lives of people at just the right moment. He shares a little wisdom and gives them a "new perspective" on their circumstances, with life-changing results.
It's a quick read (or maybe I just devoured it because I was so reading-deprived!), and an easy, enjoyable one, too. It's a book that will make you think about seeing things through a different set of eyes!
What's really most amazing to me is that it's based on a true story. Read it and you'll see why that's a big deal!

The Noticer is more than a novel. It's a book meant to inspire people, to change lives. As Jones gives each cookie cutter problem a solution, the reader is supposed to look within their own self and life and take the advice given to heart. Jones answers questions about goals, motivation, how to act in a way that will make people want to be around you, relationships, purpose in life, and how to treat others to gain respect. There are a plethora of scenarios, and the book is not overly plot based- it is rather a book that goes from one problem to the next to give, as Jones would say, perspective to the reader.
Jones is charming and humble, even if the other characters tend to be a bit unbelievable. Of course, I understand that the characters must be a certain way to express the points of the book. While reading the book I sometimes felt that certain parts were hard to accept. As I said above, it all seemed rather cookie-cutter and too perfect in question and response.
All in all, The Noticer was an okay book. Not great, but not awful. It was a light day read that was, for sure, inspiring.

Very inspirational. Really makes you think about things differently and want to improve yourself. One chapter has the same info as the whole book "The Five Love Languages".

This book arrived on Wednesday, when I was suffering from a sore throat and a terrible headache. I set the book beside on the bed and kept looking at that cover. It was not the title or the author that kept drawing my attention but the tagline from a review by golfer Nancy Lopez, âThis is the best book I have ever read in my life.â
Within minutes I was half way through Chapter 1 and had no idea I wouldn't put it down until I finished. It is fiction, but the author writes it as an autobiography and it is full of more inspiration, wisdom and motivation than any self help book.
An elderly white haired man with brown skin who calls himself Jones, just Jones, not Mr. Jones, shows up at one of the author's lowest points of his life and shows him how a different way of looking at things, a different perspective can change your life.
Over the years this man shows up again and again in this small Alabama town to help the desperate, depressed and downtrodden. Those who feel helpless and hopeless whether it be from the loss of a job, the loss of a loved one , divorce, financial worries or just at the end of their rope. He knows everything about them and helps them see their lives in a different perspective and changes their lives.
He believed that everyone was âin a crisis, coming out of a crisis, or headed for a crisis.â âThat's just part of being on this planet.â It was how you handled the crisis that made you who you are. How just being on this earth affects so many other people.

Wasn't exactly what I thought it was going to be but did like reading it for the moral and philosophical lessons it was trying to convey. Would recommend it if this is what you're looking for.

This is a quick and delightful read! The story is told by the author beginning with an encounter with "Jones" decades earlier and the impact he had in changing his life. Then he shows up again and we experience his journey as he helps people in need to gain some perspective. The story combines magical elements with reality so it seems true even though it must be fiction. It does make you stop and think and has bits of wisdom throughout. The theme is that opportunities and encouragement come from people, so how you present yourself to others is important. One of the quotes I loved is "Forgiveness is about the past. Trust and respect are about the future. Forgiveness will be in the hands of others and can be given to you, but trust and respect are in your own hands...and must be earned." An enjoyable and eye-opening journey.

I am really glad I read this book. No matter what problems you have going on your family / professional life, there is something in this book that will help you to feel a little bit better about it.
This is my second Andy Andrews book. The first one I read was Island of Saints. I highly recommend both!

"The Noticer" by Andy Andrews ("The Final Summit", "The Traveler's Gift") is a tale of an enigma named Jones who mysteriously appears in the small town of Orange Beach, Alabama (big surprise!) helping others with the turmoils of their lives, even when they didn't know they needed helping . . . by providing a little perspective into their respective situations.
Thought provoking, straightforward read in the easy going style of Andrews. It could be a quick read but was the perfect book for a slow beach weekend, relaxing and energizing. Highly recommend.

This is a profound little book, written in a style that is like a story and charming. It's a self help book with some great pearls of wisdom for living well with other people and not only improving your own life but improving that of untold others as well. The way the stories within the larger story unfold is genius. I enjoyed the book and think nearly any reader will get something out of it. It's one you may want to keep around and read again now and then.
The author urges a different perspective, which is often all we need to deal with a person or situation differently. Usually we are so set in what we think and believe, we don't see those other perspectives.

This is a GREAT book! It reads like a story but has some wonderful little insights that you may want to read again and again! It was a delight to read and I have gone in search for the sequels and other books by Andy Andrews! Enjoy!

When an old drifter named Jones wanders through the town of Orange Beach, Alabama, he seems intent on changing the lives of everyone he meets. A typical town with typical problems, several people of Orange Beach find themselves greatly in need of the help that Jones provides. But can a change in perspective, which is what is offered by Jones, truly be enough to change their lives forever?
I thought this book was mainly talk, with little true substance. There weren't really any new profound insights made, and virtually all the dialog and events were completely unbelievable, mainly because the new perspective offered is nothing that I found to be really convincing or life-changing. I had read most of the insights in other formats elsewhere, including the 'keep your fork' story that is well-known due to a popular e-mail forward that has been traveling around the world for years now already. Add to that the fact that most of what was put forward as profound revelations are conclusions I firmly disagree with, and I didn't care much for this book. That being said, I'm also not the typical audience for this type of book. I gave it a try, but it's not for me. Devout Christians and self-help fans may feel differently about it. For me, I give it 2/5 stars.
