In 1871 Andrew Napier and Fujio Hodokawa found a large silk textile mill in Nagasaki. Two generations later, relatives are Harvard classmates and best friends. The story starts in 1936 as love is growing between Douglas's son, Max and Tadashi's daughter, Shizuea. This is not a great idea because of mixed blood. Great novel about love and tradition especially during WWII.
Set in Japan-an epic novel of two families, one Japanese and one American from 1871 though the second WW - alliances in business and in love
1871-on the docks of YOKOHAMA a young american adventurer meets a once proud samurai.1936-now as the world moves toward war, fate challenges the fortunes of two noble families.
a multi-generational family sage spanning 1871 to the beginnings of WWII set in Japan
A masterfully told story of the meeting of two vastly different ways of life, a novel that compels the reader with the force of history and the sheer sweep of its storytelling as it brings to life the generations of two families who forged a great business dynasty from fragile threads of the finest silk.
A good read.
