I've seen a couple of discussions about this--the latest Mrslefty's below--that presume that everyone who frequents the boards buddies each other and we create this sort of exclusive club or something LOL.  So I thought I'd ask outright, and we can settle this question!!  :)

I have a couple of buddies whom I got directly from PBS swaps, but to my knowledge none of my buddies are people from the boards with whom I have not already swapped in one direction or the other.  The vast majority of my buddies are friends and family IRL, or people I know from completely un-PBS-related homeschool chat boards.  :)

Are you saying this is a quote from Mrs.Lefty?  If so, she is saying that none of her buddies are people she hasn't already swapped with.

As for me, my buddies are people I've swapped with or some of their buddies that have similiar reading tastes. I've gotten one buddy from the board but, that was because I saw in her sig line a couple books I wanted and ordered them and then we became buddies.

actually I think she said that that is how she got her buddies.   Mrslefty just made her wonder about it.

I have most of my buddies from folks i met here on the boards.

No, no, Mrslefty is just the one who started this thread:

http://www.paperbackswap.com/forum/topic.php?t=108166

in which several people seemed to imply or stated outright that board browsers all buddy each other to avoid the FIFO.  I've seen this topic come up several times in the past--the one she started was just the latest.

I don't think I've ever had a book posted directly to my WL, and I don't think I've done to anyone else, either. The few buddies I have started out as "tags" for good trades or bazaar deals, or something.  I used to have one person tagged "do not trade" but when the new buddy system came in I dropped that name. I wasn't about to send a buddy request to someone just so I could mark it "DNT"  ;-/   I have the name on a sticky note.

I've had one blast PM from a buddy offering a deal. I looked at her WL and shelf, but didn't see anything, so I ignored it. Later she sent another PM apologizing because someone had complained that she had "spammed" them. I told her to tell that other member to lighten up!

I've got my buddy thing set to accept all requests, but unless they PM me and tell me, I wouldn't know why.

I don't have any friends or family on here. Most of my buddies are people from Swaps, that I talk to on the boards or I've done transactions with before.  I have a few that I don't recognize why they're there since I have it on auto accept.  I figure they either like my shelf or have books on my WL.  I have some that I buddied for that reason.  I buddied a new person the other day because she had books by an author that I have some of a series in the TBR pile already.  When I'm ready to read them, I'll check her shelf first to see if she still has them.

Are you meaning buddies as in Buddy List or someone I would directly post a WL book to?  My Buddy List is mostly members whom I have requested from or sent books to.  I've posted books to WLs of members that I "met" on the forums I frequent the most, but I've also posted WL books directly to the system and others directly to people I don't know but who have posted about really wanting certain books that I am able to post.

I have hundreds of buddys.  I have no idea why.   I had a good amount from the other Buddy list, because of swaps, books in common, or whatever.     Now I have my buddy list on auto and I have all these buddys.   I don't care WHY someone wants me on their buddy list.      I do need to go and make tags for a lot of them, so I can remember why I added some.

Most of the buddies I added are folks I knew from a previous site.   I have a couple others that have shelves I want to keep an eye on for one reason or another.

The rest are people who buddied me, since I have it on auto-accept.  I don't know why they buddied me, but if they want me as a buddy that's fine. :)

I don't have very many buddies, and I'm not sure where some of them came from- I assume that they liked the look of my shelf, and that's fine with me.  I'm with the others who said that they don't care why someone wants to be their buddy- the more the merrier, right?  A couple of my buddies are people with whom I have swapped, two are the organizers of the Outlander discussion group, and one is my best friend since jr. high school (she's the one who got me into this site).  The rest invited me and I accepted, and that was that.  I like the new buddy system- I frequently check my buddies' wish lists to see if there is anything I have that they want.

I don't have any buddies yet, probably because I only have about 4 books on my shelf at any given time (I send WL books out quite often), so no one is really attracted to my profile, I guess.  I also don't know anyone IRL who's on PBS (but I'm trying to recruit!). But y'all are so nice, I feel like we're buddies just by keeping up with and posting in the forums :-)

Thanks, ducky, I PM'd you!  :)   I'll repeat the basic info here though in case anyone else cares LOL... I'm not interested in hardbacks of the HP series *unless* they are the library editions, because those are PB size and being military overseas we are trying to keep down the size and weight of our bazillion books.  ;)  That's partly why I joined PBS; I've listed lots of hardbacks and swapped them for paperbacks or just got them off my shelves.  If we weren't military and knew that next move will be coming eventually I'd probably have every room in my house filled with books like my SIL LOL... but as it is we have the equivalent of 3 full-size bookshelves and when those are full we can't get more until we get rid of some.  With PBs or library editions I can have more books in the same space.  ;)

I have buddies from RL, and the rest are from games or people I swap books with alot because of our common taste in books. I don't know that I've ever got a buddy from the forum besides the swaps where you really talk to people alot daily. I've never posted a book directly to someone's WL and have only had 2 done to me that way. I don't see anything wrong with it and I'm sure that even those who do post to other's WL also post WL books into the FIFO system as well.
